Fall 2019 Ceramics
What
Masterclass at Opalka is a FREE, advanced art class for select high school students offered by Opalka Gallery and the Russell Sage College Art + Design Department. Each Masterclass will focus on a subject related to an exhibition on view at the gallery and will be taught by a Sage professor. Artwork from the Masterclass will be exhibited at the Little Gallery on campus and may travel to regional high schools, corporate and government headquarters.
This fall’s Masterclass is an intensive 4-week, Saturday course that will introduce students to the basic elements and methods present in the construction of ceramic works of art including both functional and sculptural processes. Exploration in contemporary art practices and experimentation with outside materials are encouraged and expected. Taught by Sage Art + Design professor, William Fillmore, this Masterclass will provide hands-on instruction related to ceramics, while also teaching students how to install their work and participate in college-level critiques. Students will also be given a Director’s tour of the CHEW: Food as Muse exhibition at Opalka Gallery, opening November 1.
